Art Basel – The Vernissage
Art Basel’s VIP preview and the invitation-only Vernissage drew collectors and spectators, several who filed into the fair after an exclusive lunch hosted by sponsor UBS. The American show displays masters in modern and contemporary art from leading galleries in five continents, plus panel discussions, brunches, book presentations and private viewings.
Certainly, this year, the stylish-curious set also came to see the Louis Vuitton’s Art Basel Miami Beach exhibit, featuring a curated ensemble of works by some of the world’s most renowned artists. On view through December 3, the exhibit features two wax figures of Yayoi Kusama, created by the artist herself; a panda figure sculpture by Takashi Murakami on a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk; paintings by Richard Prince and Alex Katz; a photo by Jean Larivière; and the now iconic Artycapucines collection. As a celebration of the Maison’s long-standing relationship with Yayoi Kusama – and to mark the 10-year anniversary of their first collaboration – exclusive new pieces are also on view for the first time to serve as a teaser of the upcoming collaboration.
Balmain presents Alexandre Arrechea at Villa Balmain
As the sun set over an Art Week afternoon, Superblue became the hottest spot in town, as Balmain – the fashion house from Paris – created an exhibit to celebrate the architecture of an Italian villa. A collaboration of art, fashion, interior design and impeccable building structure and style, the invitation only evening drew executives from fashion houses – Chanel’s Amy Nieto was in attendance – and those who are allotted front row seats at shows globally. Mingling and viewing the exhibit were Alison Zhuk, Dana Shear, Lydia Touzet, Maya Ezratti, Elizabeth Resnick, Susanne Birbragher, Suzy Buckley Woodward.
And later on in the Design District…
