Broadway Brings on Opera
Famed Broadway musical director Richard Jay-Alexander is leading South Florida Symphony Orchestra’s groundbreaking production of Porgy and Bess, the opera by composer George Gershwin. Over three performances, a 70-piece orchestra will play to a set design by Paul Tate dePoo. This is an new adaptation features an all-star cast that includes Neil Nelson, Brandie Sutton, Jermaine Smith, and Simone Paulwell.

Louis Vuitton is launching the debut collection of Virgil Abloh, the fashion designer, DJ and music producer who has been the artistic director of the brand’s menswear collection. The highly anticipated line will be unveiled at a limited-time pop-up in the Louis Vuitton Design District location at an invitation only event this week. The spring/summer 2019 items will be available at select stores and the fashion world is watching eagerly. The website Hypebeast.com reported the set includes monogrammed courier trunks priced at $78,000 and pochettes at $495, with footwear starting at $1020 and a crocodile trench coat selling for – take a breath – 195,000.

Cecil and Ana Milton will host at their Gables Estates home a fundraising event to benefit students of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami. Hospitality magnate Karim J. Alibhai will serve as honorary chairman for the Bollywood themed celebration, which will include an authentic Indian buffet dinner, cocktails, a celebrity DJ and a performance by Making Moves Universal Dance Company.
