Learning through creativity and play – that’s the heart of The ReThink + ReUse Center, and that’s what they promise for their first ever “Green Ball.” In addition to interactive play stations for your “inner child,” there will be plenty of music, drinks and environmental awareness. Your $75 donation helps fund The ReThink + ReUse Center, which annually collects and redistributes more than 7 tons of clean, reusable materials to teachers and parents of young children. Help the center as it promotes meaningful learning experiences for children while encouraging community-wide ecological responsibility. Attire: “Miami Chic.” To RSVP, call 305-500-9235 or email mrosen@rethinkandreusemiami.org.

About The Rethink + Reuse Center

Research has proven that the play process is exceptionally powerful in the stimulation of learning, particularly in early childhood, birth to 5 years of age. One of the most effective ways to spark brain growth is through a hands-on experience using materials with no pre-determined use. ReThinking and ReUsing common materials, such as commercial ice cream cartons, pieces of wood and PVC pipe ends develops math, science, literacy, and social relationship skills to foster school readiness for young children.

The ReThink + ReUse Center, Inc., a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, is a reusable resource center that annually collects and provides early childhood educators and parents clean and safe recyclable materials for educational purposes to effectively optimize each child’s learning potential through exploratory play. The “Understand the Play Process Using Recyclable Materials” workshop provides the opportunity to use materials with no pre-set purpose and experience creative skills developed in childhood. Workshops are led by Early Childhood Resource Specialists in English, Spanish and Creole. A used Miami-Dade County van sponsored by Commissioner Jose Diaz and Miami-Dade County Commissioners visits six sites throughout Miami-Dade with materials for distribution to child care staff and families.

Materials for The ReThink + ReUse Center come from local businesses that generate an abundance of solid waste products: over-runs, discontinued items, rejects, obsolete parts, and packaging waste. Contributions to the Center help them reduce disposal cost, contribute to the preservation of our landfills, reduce taxes and enhance public service.

The ReThink + ReUse Center encourages preservation of the environment by providing local companies and families the opportunity to work together to promote community-wide ecological responsibility and meaningful learning experiences for young children using environmentally friendly and innovative solutions.
