“Through the Looking Glass” Gala Benefits the Cushman School

The Cushman School held its annual Gala at Mana Wynwood, grossing over $750,000. Funds raised will go toward scholarships, additional programming and the “Play to Learn” Campaign to bring a new performing arts and athletic center to the school and community by fall 2017. Close to 500 parents, community leaders, friends and local luminaries, including: Romero Britto, Marco Antonio Solis and Emilio Estefan, attended. This year’s whimsical theme was “Through the Looking Glass”, a playful spin on the widely popular fairy-tale classic Alice in Wonderland with guests dressed in 18th-century Victorian and Steampunk fashionable wear to celebrate the night. The evening featured a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a live auction led by Nick Weir, V.P. of Entertainment for Royal Caribbean International. Afterwards, guests enjoyed an elegant four-course dinner by local star Chefs’ Michelle Bernstein and Dena Marino. Dinner opened with a heartfelt speech by Arvi Balseiro, Head of The Cushman School, who honored Abigail Pollak and her late husband FJ Pollak, who was Chairman of the Play to Learn campaign.
