Meet the chairs for The Art of Illumination

Michelle Areces, Olga Granda-Scott, and Aimet Oberhausen

On November 10, 2012 from 9 pm to 1 am , the Wolfsonian Visionaries will host their third annual fundraising event, The Art of Illumination, to benefit The Wolfsonian–Florida International University. The event, which will focus on the power and beauty of light with LED light installations from local architects and designers featured throughout the venue, will be held at the historic Moore Building and is being organized by a committee of Visionaries, led by Michelle Areces, Olga Granda-Scott, and Aimet Oberhausen.

Michelle Areces, the event’s culinary and logistical planner is the owner of Petit Pois, a boutique catering and event production company that organizes everything from high-end weddings to corporate events for clients such as Cartier, Jimmy Choo, and the Latin Billboard Awards. Michelle’s diverse career path—involving several years working for international corporations, followed by a stint as a fundraiser at Miami Children’s Hospital, and then branching into event planning and catering—is one in which all roads have led, in one way or another, to her current occupation. She describes her culinary style as “comfort food meets gourmet,” and that will be reflected in the menu for her new PanPan Café, opening next month at The Wolfsonian–FIU. For the Art of Illumination, Michelle will create an experience which will allow attendees to savor diverse flavors and interact with illumination in different ways.

Olga Granda-Scott is director of design and communications at Alhambra Antiques in Coral Gables, where she curates exhibitions of antique, vintage, and contemporary works of art and design. Also a seasoned auction coordinator, Olga has taken on the responsibility of chairing the annual fundraising event which will include the exhibition and silent auction of the works produced by local architects and designers . “The Wolfsonian Visionaries are dedicated to inspiring and engaging its members and the community to appreciate the role design plays in shaping society, so it was essential to involve prominent designers and creative thinkers from our community in the celebration”, Olga explained. Another element of this interaction with the artistic community was inviting Dance Now! Miami, where Olga serves on the Board of Directors, to create works that will be performed at the event as part of their Ekphrasis project. Ekphrasis, translated “art from art” will be a series of dances inspired by architecture and illumination.

Aimet Oberhausen of Oberhausen Marketing & Public Relations designs media relations campaigns for a wide-ranging, international client body. The firm specializes in the hospitality, architecture, and lifestyle industries. Aimet is serving as the Art of Illumination’s media relations and sponsorship coordinator. Media partners she has secured include Social Miami, Venu Magazine, Chat Chow TV, Miami Modern Luxury, as well as restaurant partners STK and bianca at the Delano. Aimet has served on the Visionaries’ annual fundraising event committee since its inception in 2010.
