2016 Philanthropy Honorees: Christy Martin, Lydia Touzet, Frances Sevilla-Sacasa, Ken Downing, Swanee DiMare, Gigi Whitman, Stephen Brunelle, Marie Ilene Whitehurst, and Laurie Jennings

More than 300 fashion-forward guests attended the 5th Annual Splendor in the Garden held at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden . The event was presented by Neiman Marcus Coral Gables, Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, and Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay with sponsorship from Ocean Drive Magazine, Marquis Bank and support from Selecta magazine and Miami In Style TV. Proceeds supported Fairchild’s programs in education, conservation science, and horticulture.

The day began with a cocktail reception in the Garden followed by a seated lakeside lunch catered by Le Basque. Emcee Stephanie Aagaard welcomed guests and introduced Co-Chair Swanee DiMare, who thanked the sponsors, partners, and audience for their support. Fairchild’s Director, Dr. Carl Lewis, spoke about the many science and education initiatives at the Garden that fundraisers such as Splendor in the Garden help to sustain.

Stephen Brunelle, VP and General Manager of Neiman Marcus Coral Gables, introduced Ken Downing, Senior VP and Fashion Director of Neiman Marcus, who took the stage to much applause and mentioned how he loves returning to Fairchild every year because the Miami ladies are the most enthusiastic of any he has ever encountered.

Ken then presented the highly anticipated Spring 2016 fashion show featuring lace and light colors accented with floral motifs as well as a collection of “denim redefined.” Red was featured as a statement color for the season, and the finale highlighted both day and evening pieces with shiny metallic pleats.
