In this episode, the gourmet gals from Food and Wine Talk spoke to food writer Joan Nathan. Of course, Nathan didn’t set out to be a food writer. With degrees from the University of Michigan and Harvard’s Kennedy School, she was heading for a career in government when she went to Jerusalem and fell in love with its vibrant, polyglot cuisine, and she’s never looked back.

Since then she has written 10 books – including the award-winning and essential Jewish Cooking in America – and countless articles for The New York Times. She also made a prize-winning PBS series, also called Jewish Cooking in America.

Nathan’s new cookbook, Quiches, Kugels, and Couscous, takes a look at Jewish cooking in France. The book, her tenth, immediately found its way onto all the “Best Cookbooks of the Year” lists.
