Gala Gals

Maria Carolina Tavares de Melo leads BrazilianFoundation gala

After a successful inaugural gala in 2012, the BrazilFoundation, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support social projects in Brazil, will hold its second annual gala in Miami on March 26 at the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Chairing this year’s event is Maria Carolina Tavares de Melo, a Brazilian native born and raised in Recife, in the sun-drenched Northeastern region of the country.

In 2006, Melo married Paulo Tavares de Melo and they moved to Miami, where she enrolled in two consecutive International Law LL.M. programs at the University of Miami. She quickly embraced the city and became involved with the University, where she is now a member of the Advisory Committee for the International Graduate Law Programs’ Alumni Association. She is also a mentor for new International Law LL.M. students who are beginning their courses at UM. Life in the United States enabled Melo to be exposed to her most intense passion: fashion. She became increasingly involved in the industry, and she now dedicates most of her time to her business initiatives in the fashion industry. In fact, Melo recently participated in SocialMiami’s ongoing series Fashion Faves of the Miami Chic, which was filmed at Ornare, a luxury Brazilian closet manufacturer located in the Miami Design District.
