A Complete Approach to Beauty
Zac Posen on Fisher Island
Saks Fifth Avenue, Bal Harbour and Zac Posen along with Lea Black, Sarah Bromley, Ingrid Casares, Tutti Irizarry, Loretta Mattos and Michelle Rubell hosted a fantastic event for South Florida’s finest on famed Fisher Island to view Posen’s Spring/Summer ’08 collection. A portion of the night’s proceeds benefited Bay Point Schools, an alternative boarding school that provides educational/vocational and therapeutic services to moderate-risk adolescent boys.
Social Affairs Starfish Awards
It was a night of gold stars all around when the inaugural Social Affairs Starfish Awards were presented at a private fund-raising dinner benefit. Created by Social Affairs publisher Norma Quintero, president of the Jackson Cancer Care Board, and Nancy Batchelor, vice president of the Jackson Cancer Care Board, the party was held at the Coral Gables home of Diane and Allen de Olazarra. The event raised more than $160,000 for the Mitchell & Elizabeth Taylor Breast Health Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Beauty was all around, in the form of a fashion show (underwritten by Neiman Marcus at Village of Merrick Park) featuring the designs of Naeem Khan.
Opening Night Art Basel Miami Beach
With a record number of 43,000 visitors from every continent plus 1,600 journalists, Art Basel Miami Beach attracted more people than ever. Celebrated artists and leading art-world personalities participated in Art Basel’s programs and more than 100 museums from the USA, Europe, Latin America, and Asia attended with delegations from their boards of trustees. Here, SocialMiami looks at four fabulous events that happened on ABMB’s opening night.
Miami Children’s Museum 4th Annual “Be A Kid Again Gala: Tropical Twenties”
With a gala that offered a journey back to a “Roarin’ Twenties” experience, Miami Children’s Museum delighted more than 700 attendees with a host of food, entertainment, prizes and surprises and successfully raised $200,000 for educational programming! The Museum transformed itself into a tropical twenties motif complete with flappers, gangsters, jazz musicians and much, much more. Chairpersons of the Gala were Bob & Michelle Diener and Donald & Lisa Pliner.
¡Smithsonian con Sabor! Gala
The Smithsonian Latino Center hosted its second annual ¡Smithsonian con Sabor! Gala, which celebrated the Smithsonian Latino Center’s 10th anniversary and Mexican culture. In keeping with the Center’s tradition of highlighting a different Latin culture each year, the 2007 gala featured the culture of Mexico. The gala – under the patronage of Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan and chaired by former first lady of Florida Columba Bush – included a Legacy Awards Ceremony for prominent individuals of Mexican descent whose contributions have had significant impact on American culture.
Chanel at Miami Executive Airport
The legendary House of Chanel presented the premiere showing of the Chanel 2008 Resort and Cruise Collection in a private airplane hangar at the Miami Executive Airport. The show was presented by Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland to benefit the Golden Angels, a recognition society of the Jackson Memorial Foundation.
Tory Burch in Bal Harbour
Raphael Bastian, Maria Beguiristain, Alison O’keefe, Missy Kent and Kim Wood hosted a shopping event where attendees had the opportunity to meet Tory Burch. The event marked the opening of Burch’s new store in the Bal Harbour Shops, and guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and Oronoco mandarin mojitos while shopping the easy-style chic collection. A percentage of proceeds benefited Beaux Arts of the Lowe Art Museum.
Love and Hope Ball
Set to the theme “An Evening of Treasures,” the 33rd annual Love and Hope Ball was held on February 17 at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood. More than 600 guests entered a cocktail reception bathed in silvery hues, where many were thrilled to “find” treasures such as furs, jewels and other fabulous prizes. After, they dined and danced the night away in a ballroom aglow in tones of gold. This spectacular black-tie gala, in combination with December’s Preview Party, raised more than $1 million for the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
A Tour of Art and Design Night
This SocialMiami tour of Art + Design Night in Miami’s growing Design District takes viewers through an exciting second Saturday. Each month on the second Saturday, the Design District’s stores, restaurants and galleries are packed with patrons ready to party out in Miami’s coolest urban neighborhood.
The Wedding of Valentina Maietto Mongio and Shail Janak Shah
Valentina Maietto Mongio and Shail Janak Shah celebrated their traditional Indian wedding in Miami, Florida. The Sangeet pre-party was held at the Vizcaya Gardens and the wedding at the Biltmore Hotel with a special performance by the Chico and the Gypsies (former Gypsy Kings).
