Miami Women Who Rock
Maxwell’s Plum in Wellington
Jennifer Oz LeRoy – her great-grandfather and great uncle were Warner Brothers’ Harry Warner and Jack Warner, her grandfather the producer and director Mervyn LeRoy of “Wizard of Oz” fame, and her parents are Kay and Warner LeRoy who owned and operated NYC’s Tavern on the Green, The Russian Tea Room, and the original Maxwell’s Plum in New York – has opened in Wellinton a iteration of the latter, which was a legendary New York City hot spot in the 1960s for a decade. The Wellington Maxwell’s Plum, says the restaurant, is serving some high-powered patrons such as Bruce Springsteen, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Georgina Chapman.
The place has an eclectic and exciting decor with pieces from the original Tavern on the Green and Maxwell’s Plum incorporated into the walls of palm trees, neon, brass and gold. Don’t miss the homemade potato chips with truffle onion dip or the classic Cesear salad with brown butter crotons and anchovies. The avocado tartare has pickled red onion, sundried tomato, hikiki, cilantro and is served with sourdough toast and the Plum Burger is with caramelized onions on brioche. Pizza here is mandatory, choosing one to order is not – get two if you must. The Quattro Formaggi is served with gruyére, mozzarella, feta and parmesean and the mushroom and chicken has grilled marinated white meat with roasted wild mushrooms and lioni mozzarella.
Marlins Win – GO FISH!
Sure, the Miami Marlins beat the Oakland A’s last weekend because they’re good at baseball but perhaps the team got an extra bit of good luck from community leaders showing support from the Milton Box, invited by philanthropists Ana VeigaMilton and Cecil Milton. Filling up the VIP seats included those known for making things happen in Miami including University of Miami’s Adriana Vergeja, Jackson Health Foundation’s Graydon Hadaway, Foundation for New Education Initiatives’ Ann Stith, Chamber South’s Brittnie Bassant, the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition’s Claudia Uribe.
Everyone mixed and mingled, nibbling on the best of ballgame fare including burgers, hot dogs, crispy fries and Cesear salad, finishing it off with ice cream served in baseball hat bowls and layers of sweet rainbow cake.
