Vanishing Voices

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and SocialMiami editor Brett Graff at Silverspot Cinema for the Vanishing Voices screening
Vanishing Voices, presented by Florida Grand Opera and Vidal-Duart Enterprises hosted it’s premiere and red carpet screening. It captures Florida Grand Opera’s bold transformation as it reclaims its voice and redefines opera for a new generation. The film highlights the culture, social and artistic revival at the historic institution, highlighting interviews with performers and personalities touched by the opportunity to be part of the company. Vanishing Voices features exclusive appearances by Nicoletta Pavarotti, widow of the late, legendary Luciano Pavarotti, and Limmie Pulliam, who recently made history as the first African American tenor to perform Aida at The Metropolitan Opera—and who also starred as Canio in FGO’s recent production of Pagliacci.
The mission of the movie goes beyond the stage: as the producers are working to actively educate the community about the essential role opera plays in society and the role the community must play in return to ensure this art form both survives and continues. They are also developing programs that spark curiosity and excitement about the art form and how relevant it is to today’s society, especially for audiences who may have never considered opera part of their world. FGO says it’s made accessibility and education central to its mission, bringing over 20,000 children each season to attend live dress rehearsals, offering many students their first-ever experience of opera. The company is also creating more immersive, reimagined productions—including a recent staging of The Magic Flute, which the Miami Herald called “a monumental made-in-South Florida production.”
Attending the event: Tina Vidal-Duart, board chairwoman of Florida Grand Opera and owner of DCR Companies; Carlos Duart, owner of CDR Companies, Maria Todaro, general director and CEO of Florida Grand Opera, Senator Alexis Calatayud, Florida State Senate, Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III, City of Miami Commissioner Damian Pardo, Miami Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, former NFL player and philanthropist Johnathan Cyprien, music producer Emilio Estefan.
