VeigaMilton: Family Style Philanthropy
Ana VeigaMilton introduces her grandson to the world of giving back.

Mateo and I have already shared many meaningful adventures. We have visited the University of Miami several times, including an unforgettable encounter with Stuart Weitzman at the Miami HerbertBusiness School. While I was captivated by his story of perseverance, marketing brilliance, and how he built a global shoe empire Mateo enjoyed the attention. Watching business students model his designs while learning from his journey was a true highlight. Mateo also joined the ‘Canes Community Day of Service, led by my son Eric Miltom, President of the Miami ‘Canes Community. Together, we stocked the ‘Canes Community Food Pantry, which provides meals and essential nutrition to students facing food insecurity, critical support that helps them succeed in their studies, especially during finals week.We participated in the Artificial Intelligence Hackathon, partially sponsored by the José Milton Foundation, mingling with brilliant students from the Society of Women Engineers. I also brought Mateo to one of my favorite places: the Cuban Heritage Collection at UM’sRichter Library. I showed him a plaque honoring his bisabuelo (great-grandfather,) a tangible link to our family’s legacy.
