VeigaMilton: Family Style Philanthropy

This week, Ana VeigaMilton covers the Mayor's Ball benefitting United Way.

The Milton Family joins Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and her husband, Dr. Robert Cava, inside the stunning, nearly 2,000-square-foot original bank vault, complete with its 50,000-pound door, at the historic Alfred I. duPont Building, once home to Florida National Bank.

As a past Board Member and proud Co-Chair of the 2025 Mayor’s Masquerade Ball, I am thrilled to share that we met and celebrated our ambitious fundraising goal of $1 million! These vital funds will power United Way Miami’s Core Four pillars: Health & Wellbeing, Education, Resilient Communities, and Economic Mobility. “We’re HERE!” – helping our neighbors thrive.

Held at the iconic Art Deco Alfred I. duPont Building, guests enjoyed cocktails served through 1930s iron-barred teller windows and indulged in dessert inside the original bank vault – a genuinely Miami backdrop for an unforgettable evening.

During the evening’s brief program, United Way’s President & CEO Symeria Hudson thanked our committee, generous sponsors, and my family for making the night a fun success. A video tribute followed, highlighting Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s steadfast support of United Way Miami. Madam Mayor then took the stage, celebrating the nonprofit’s impact, saluting local leaders, and recognizing supportive County Commissioners and Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres for continued partnership.

The buffet was unveiled, and the music and dancing began. The dessert bar took place by the iconic bank vault – impressive! The dance floor quickly filled with an eclectic mix: our Mayor, Superintendent, civic champions, business leaders, and guests all dancing together, a true reflection of the unity, energy, and spirit of our beloved community – only in Miami!

A heartfelt thanks to all our incredible sponsors, with special appreciation for our Centennial Sponsor, Griffin Catalyst & Kenneth Griffin.

Deep gratitude to the United Way Miami team, especially Symeria Hudson and her remarkable development team led by Chief Philanthropy Officer Gladys Reed and VP of Development Ivette Diaz, whose leadership and commitment made this night possible and our community stronger.

And finally, thank you to my friends, colleagues, and fellow changemakers who leaned in with heart and purpose to support our community and to our Alcaldeza, who leads with transparency, accessibility, and a deep commitment to partnering with the business and nonprofit sectors to build a better future
