Imagine being transported back to 1978. Rock ‘n’ Roll and disco fever were in full swing, and heavy metal, punk and hip hop had yet to jump onto the pop charts.
Thirty years ago, “rock royalty” superstars, like Billy Joel, Queen, Elton John, Duran Duran, the Police, Aerosmith and U2, were launching their musical careers. And Baptist Hospital threw its first ball – a grand, formal event attended by physicians and other distinguished guests.
Now, fast-forward to 2008. What’s in store for this year’s ball? Well, the theme, “Rock’n” Royalty is a sure sign something different is in the works. For starters, we want you to leave your black tie and gown at home, because this is our first-ever-jeans-and-jewels ball!
Then, get ready to relive the concert experience at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa. Pass through “security,” approach the “ticket booth,” steer clear of “scalpers,” and pose for the “paparazzi” – all while listening to old-school rock ‘n’ roll from 93Rock.
Inside the ballroom concert, covers of old rock hits – courtesy of Dr. Jack Ziffer and Ziffer 6 – will bring back sweet memories, while you dine in royal style. The Healers, a Latin rock-and-fusion band, will groove you well into the night.
Be prepared to enjoy a fun-filled, exciting evening of non-traditional fundraising for a great cause: the Radiology Department. Come pay tribute to Baptist Hospital and our many great physicians and caregivers while dressed in jeans and jewels, dancing the night away.
