Battle of the Chefs Summer Series

Benefiting CHARLEE Homes for Children

Downtown Coral Gables hosted its second challenge during its Battle of the Chefs 2007 Summer Series. This monthly event series celebrates the great chefs of Coral Gables while creating an entertaining event venue for visitors and guests.

The event, the second of four battles, featured a cook-off between chefs Willy Hernandez, of Caramelo Restaurant, winner of the second challenge, and Chris Miracolo, of Tarpon Bend Raw Bar & Grill. La Cuisine gourmet, a high-end kitchen appliance purveyor in Coral Gables located at 50 Aragon Avenue hosted the event. The next Battle of the Chefs event will be held at the same venue on Wednesday, July 25, and then again on August 22.

“Chefs Chris and Willy led a fun and friendly second competition for a great cause,” says Mari Molina, Executive Director of the Business Improvement District of Coral Gables. “Not only were we able to highlight two great Gables restaurants, but we’ve successfully generated buzz throughout the community for the upcoming battles.”

The chefs, each working with a sous chef, were supplied with a bag of “mystery” ingredients, provided by The Fresh Market, at the competition kitchen located at La Cuisine gourmet. Each team had a 5-minute huddle to strategize and then 1 hour to produce four dishes. The competition is judged on organization and neatness, originality, and presentation.

Admission was complimentary; however, a donation of $15 was encouraged. All donations directly benefited CHARLEE Homes for Children, a foster care agency in South Florida.
