The Green Room Society Offers a “Forbidden” Experience

GRS members greet guests

The Arsht Center is using alternative ways to reach out to busy young professionals who like socializing and networking over cocktails.

“This young professional demographic is the next generation of audience and supporters of arts organizations in this country. It’s important that we develop programs that are attractive to this group,” said Crystal Brewe, Director of Membership for the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

What could attract this group better than a mimosa and Sunday brunch followed by a Broadway matinee? The Arsht Center’s young patrons group, Green Room Society, will see what all the “Forbidden” talk is about with the perfect hybrid of entertainment meets party – a signature for the Green Room Society.

On Sunday, April 6, the Green Room Society invites other young professionals and the “professionally young” to join them for Broadway, Brunch, and Bubbles at 12:30 p.m. in the B. and Donald Carlin Banquet Hall for a gourmet brunch reception featuring free Bloody Mary’s and mimosas followed by a matinee of Forbidden Broadway in the Carnival Studio Theater.

Guests are not required to join the Green Room Society to attend, but the $65 all-inclusive admission cost for this event is discounted by half with the purchase or renewal of an Adrienne Arsht Center’s Green Room Society membership ($125). The Green Room Society, like other young patrons groups throughout the country, devises attractive and affordable events that dovetail with their programming to appeal to these future audiences.

“It takes time and continual maintenance to develop this audience. Our goal is to introduce them to what’s available at the Center, build lasting memories, and a love of the performing arts,” said Brewe, who makes sure that in addition to music and hors d’oeuvres, Green Room Society events are furnished with information on upcoming performances.

“Young patrons groups have been outrageously successful for venues throughout the world. They remove barriers and pretentiousness. It’s more fun and dynamic,” said Rebecca Mandelman, a Green Room Society Steering Committee Member.

For Mandelman it’s an opportunity to foster an interest in the arts for her peers. “It’s a time for people to gather, eat, drink and discuss the arts.” Mandelman said.
