Carl Hiaasen and Tim Chapman at Opening Night of “Newsman” Exhibition
It was a night full of incredible storytelling at the HistoryMiami Museum as legendary author Carl Hiaasen joined famed photojournalist Tim Chapman on stage for the opening night of Newsman: The Photojournalism of Tim Chapman. A sold out crowd, including Senator Bob Graham, former Newspaper editors, and influential journalists from across the globe, packed into the theatre of the Museum in downtown Miami to hear the two newsman tell tales of covering the Magic City. Director and Producer Billy Corbin sat in the front row, and joined Chapman and Hiaasen on stage as they discussed the wild days of the Cocaine Cowboys era of Miami. The main event of the night was the unveiling of the new exhibition Newsman featuring more than 350 images from the Tim Chapman collection housed at HistoryMiami. For forty years, Chapman captured Miami’s history through his lens as a photojournalist with the Miami Herald. Highlights of the show include images of the famous like Mohammad Ali to the infamous like the Cocaine Cowboys. Other images include the Mariel boatlift, Hurricane Andrew and the Jonestown Massacre. The exhibition will be on display at HistoryMiami Museum through August 14th.
