Castaways Against Cancer Set Out For Key West

The Castaways Against Cancer, a fundraising team composed of 17 kayakers, began its 18th annual adventure, paddling from Miami to Key West to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life program. From Virginia Key to Smathers Beach in Key West, the kayakers aim to arrive on dry land in 6 days. The Castaways are a diverse group, made up of high school teachers, a Miami-Dade firefighter, a local bank CEO and several non-profit executives. Many are from Miami, but other team members are from Jacksonville, Orlando, Georgia, North Carolina and New York City. Since its inaugural voyage in 2000, the Castaways have raised more than $875,000 for the ACS, making them one of the leading Relay For Life teams in Florida.
