Guitars Over Guns celebrated 15 years of transforming lives at its annual Choose Your Sound Gala, at Jungle Island, presented by Fred & MJ Wright, Genstone Realty/ The Crego Group, Savage Content and Fay Financial. This year’s theme was a Halloween Ball and guests were encouraged to dress like their favorite musician. Some 600 Attendees, including Madame Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Chairman Oliver Gilbert III, and hundreds of business and philanthropic leaders danced the night away while raising funds to continue empowering Miami’s under-resourced youth through music/art and mentorship. Guests enjoyed delicious food and drinks, an unbelievable silent auction and live music, including some of Miami’s best talent.
This year’s honorees were Dr. Kimberly Green and Mireille Louis Charles, President and Executive Director, respectively, from the Green Family Foundation for their ongoing investment into GOGO youth and for their dedication to providing funding and resources that support education, global health, community development, and the arts and cultural preservation. The 2023 Louis Salgar Legacy Award was presented to Jayden Holmes. This award is given annually to the Miami student who most exemplifies Louis Salgar’s ability to elevate the lives of people around him through his unmistakable passion, uncompromising drive, infectious sense of humor and positive attitude. Jayden is an 18 year-old songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, and aspiring audio engineer, recent graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School and recipient of the 2023 Frederica Wilson scholarship. In 2023, he started college at HBCU Tennessee State University as a Music Technology Major.
