The Deering Estate Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Deering Estate at Cutler, hosted an intimate celebration in the historic Stone House and the palm-rimmed courtyard, to celebrate its twentieth anniversary. Now a crown jewel of the Miami-Dade County park system, the Estate is a sanctuary for nature’s inhabitants, and a thriving hub of cultural, educational and recreational activities. Under the leadership of Walter Flores, President and Mary Pettit, Foundation Executive Director, the night was designed to pay special tribute to its Founders: Audrey Ross, Patricia Frost, Sandra C. Tinsley, Thomas B. Brady, Donald E. Kubit, Wendell R. Beard, Ronald Esserman, Judith L. George, Homer Q. Kimbrell III, John G. McMillian, George N. Jenkins, Bruce W. Greer, and the late Lynn F. Lummus, for their vision to preserve, protect and enhance the Estate for this and future generations, and for their leadership that served to seed the tremendous growth and progress we enjoy as a community today. Jocelyn Tenille, great-granddaughter of Charles Deering, was a special guest, relating her childhood memories of the Estate and on special occasions sleeping overnight in the Richmond Cottage.
