Designed for a Cure
More than $250,000 Raised for Cancer Research
Nearly 600 people filled the historic Moore Building in Miami’s Design District for Designed for A Cure, a celebration of survivorship that raised more than $250,000 for cancer research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
The fundraiser centered around a dozen Sylvester patients, including Miami locals, Frankie Andrews, Cindy Carr, Doree Fromberg, David Octavio Gandell, Carla Hill, Dr. Steven Lipshultz, Trudi Pollack and Gloria Scharlin, who escorted their doctors and nurses down the runway.
The inspiring event, chaired by Jennifer Stearns Buttrick, a survivor model at the 2007 event, brought together a community of support from both sponsors and underwriters. Guests enjoyed lavish cocktails provided by Southern Wine & Spirits and gourmet tastings from over 30 local restaurants and caterers, including Chef David Schwadron, Event Catering & Design, Sra. Martinez, Jay Caplan Caterers, Aroma Espresso, and DeVito South Beach, to name a few.
As the evening came to an end, every person was on their feet clapping and cheering the stories of survival that were highlighted at the event.
