Among them will be The Last Tango, which is a tango duet choreographed and danced by Fernanda Alvarado with her partner, Pablo Ortiz; Jennifer Ima’s contemporary workUnconditional, created for a group of six dancers and exploring themes of struggle and endurance; Mae-Lynn Flores’ work, Gitana influenced by her flamenco background and set to Por Mi Puerta No Lo Pasen by Rosalia; Leylani Machado’s vibrant group work inspired by Latin themes and social dances; and Isaiah Valentin’s powerful work, Generation Lockdown, with music by Max Richter, which is a theatrical dance piece exploring the effects of violence in our culture. This year’s program will also include short, evocative and lively dance films by NWSA alumnae, Maya Billig and Abraham Ruiz. Billig’s work has also been selected for presentation at this year’s ScreenDance Miami Film Festival in January, 2020 – audiences can see it first at New World School of the Arts!
