There was a slight chill in the air at ONE Bal Harbour Resort and Spa on this fabulous Miami night as more than 200 attendees enjoyed the lively and whimsical excerpts of Miami-based choreographer Rosie Herrera’s work Pity Party amidst a beachfront backdrop.

“My work is not only influenced by modern dance,” Herrera explained, “but by cabaret, theatre, hip hop and drag.”

Beth Boone, founder of Miami Light Project, credits the Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre as a defining element in Miami’s contemporary dance community.

The evening was topped off by Latin, funk, hip hop and dub sounds of South Florida’s music extraordinaires DJ Le Spam and the Spam Allstars. Andrew Yeomanson, a/k/a DJ Le Spam, often credits the Miami Light Project with catapulting his career to a different level through the grants and opportunities that the organization provides.

“When we first started the commissioning program ‘Here and Now’ 11 years ago, Andrew was one of the artists we commissioned,” Boone said.
