Maxine’s Closet Fundraiser

Maxine’s Closet at McCormick Place Downtown Miami held a fundraiser in memory of Maxine Thurston-Fischer, PhD, who was a trailblazer and activist in the social work field. Maxine was also a serious fashionista. In keeping with Maxine’s efforts on behalf of marginalized children and youth, Maxine’s Closet helped generate awareness of and support for Florida Foster Care Review (FFCR) through fashion and design. The event featured the sale or silent auction of more than 100 items donated by Maxine, including designer clothing, jewelry and glasses, either new or gently used. The evening included cocktails provided by Just Quality Wines and Biscayne Bay Brewing and lite bites courtesy of Catering By Lovables and Joanna’s Marketplace. In keeping with FFCR’s mission and with Maxine’s tradition of giving back, guests were encouraged to bring new or gently used handbags and shoes for Dress for Success. The event raised over $10,000 thanks to ticket sales, donations and proceeds from the sale of items. Funds will be used to further the organization’s efforts to promote positive outcomes for children and youth in foster care.
