MOCA’s Bohemian Bash

BoHo Chic Meets Artsy Surreal

Join the Museum of Contemporary Art on February 20 for the Bohemian Bash, the season’s most imaginative fundraiser celebrating the spirit of creativity. Guests will be surprised and delighted as they enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music and performance throughout the museum’s galleries, which will be transformed by Miami artists into a series of surreal environments.

Tickets to the Bohemian Bash are $150 in advance, $175 after February 5. Proceeds from the event will benefit MOCA’s collection and programs. To launch the event, MOCA will host a kick-off party Thursday, January 21 at The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club’s Maxine’s Bar & Bistro, 1756 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. Complimentary Grey Goose Vodka cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and music will be offered from 8 to 10 p.m. Guests will enjoy live performances as well as palm and tarot card readings. They will have the chance to purchase specially priced tickets to the Bohemian Bash that evening in packages of 10 for $1,250. To RSVP and purchase tickets, call 305-893-6211 ext. 36.

The Bohemian Bash is co-chaired by Barbara Herzberg and Catalina Hotel owners Alan and Diane Lieberman. WSVN anchor Belkys Nerey is the event’s Honorary Chair. The Bohemian Bash takes its inspiration from the Dadaist art movement of the early 20th century that embraced the sense of the absurd and the role of the unconventional in artistic creation. Among the unexpected elements planned by Miami artists Kevin Arrow, Bhakti Baxter, Beatriz Monteavaro, and Wendy Wischer are an upside down lounge complete with furniture dangling from the ceiling, an indoor garden café populated by phantasmagoric flora and fauna, an Op Art room, and Madness night club.

Guests will dance the night away to the sounds of DJ Faux Real and dueling quartets, opera arias, and other performers including burlesque shadow dancers and avant-garde fortune tellers. Guests will enjoy cocktails by Grey Goose Vodka and dine on delectable cuisine from Solea at the W South Beach, Shiraz Catering, Kung Fu Kitchen & Sushi, Maxine’s Bar & Bistro and Adriana Restaurant. A fabulous silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind travel opportunities, designer apparel, jewelry, and tickets to top events will entice bidders throughout the night. Online bidding for the Bohemian Bash silent auction will be open after January 13 at www.mocanomi.cmarket.com.

The Bohemian Bash builds on the excitement of MOCA’s previous POP benefits, which all raised funds for the museum’s collection and programs. More than 800 guests are expected to attend.

Sponsors include Barbara Z. Herzberg, Alan & Diane Lieberman / Catalina and The Riviera South Beach Hotels, Smith Barney/Morgan Stanley, King Jewelers, Dr. Shulamit and Chaim Katzman, Ray Ellen and Allan Yarkin. Media sponsorship is provided by SocialMiami.com and Ocean Drive Magazine.
