Miami International Film Festival

The 26th Annual Miami International Film Festival officially opened with a Gusman Theater red carpet for the screening of Valentino: The Last Emperor. Although a personal matter kept the fabulous fashionista from attending the red carpet event, the show went on with the help of Tiziana Finzi, the new festival director, who walked the Gusman red carpet for the first time.

Very proudly representing his two-year-in-the-making labor of love was the film’s director Matt Tyrnauer, who recently had this to say about the one-name wonder: “Valentino as a man, and a character, is bigger than life. When we rolled the dailies, we immediately saw that the legendary designer is also a born movie star.”

Before the screening, Vivian Donnell Rodriguez, on behalf of Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón and Miami Dade College, welcomed everyone to the 26th annual edition of the Miami International Film Festival. Rodriguez singled out a few of the sponsors including American Airlines, the Knight Foundation and FPL before introducing Finzi who expressed how very exciting it is to be in Miami. Speaking to those who have questioned her decision to open the Festival with a documentary, she commented, “To me it’s not a documentary, it’s a movie – a movie about life, history, fashion, of course, and an icon.”
