Miami native to perform with Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company
Performances at Broward College's Bailey Hall
The fluid, passionate movement of one the most iconic American choreographers, Paul Taylor, will be on display at Bailey Hall on the Central Campus of Broward College in Davie on Saturday, February 8 at 8pm when The Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company performs. The Bailey Hall stage has seen many wonderful dance companies over the years, including Hubbard Street Dance from Chicago, but this presentation of Paul Taylor’s works is part of a series of events aimed at bringing Bailey Concert Hall back to the Southern Florida public. The Signature Series started in late 2013 and has included the award winning string musicians Kronos Quartet as well as comedienne Paula Poundstone. The series will conclude with An Evening With Ira Glass on March 15.
Mr. Taylor established Taylor 2 in 1993 to ensure that audiences all over the world could see his works. He worked with longtime colleague Linda Hodes to create a company that could accommodate performance requests as well as teach and provide community outreach, and he looked back to the 1954 origins of his larger company for the structure of his new company: six professionals with a particular gift for his style who perform his work throughout the world. Engagements are flexible and are customized to meet the needs of each community. They often include master classes and lecture demonstrations in addition to performances in non-traditional venues as well as theaters. One of the dancers in the current company is Miami native Manuel Sanchez. A graduate of the New World School of Art dance program, Mr. Sanchez will be performing for the final time with Taylor 2, so the evening will be filled with heightened emotions. He began his dance training with Diane Brownholtz at Miami Dade College, and later received his B.F.A. in Dance from the New World School of the Arts. While there he performed works of Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey. He joined the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company in Summer 2010.
“Bailey Hall is honored to present one of the leading American dance companies. Bringing great arts experiences to Broward College students as well as the greater South Florida audiences is a main goal for Bailey Hall.”, said Associate Dean of Cultural Affairs, Eric Kerchner. Dance students will have the opportunity to participate in a master class with the dancers and interact during the day leading up to the performance.
