Optic Nerve 2013 Winners At Moca

Takeshi Murata’s Shiboogi was selected for MOCA’s permanent collection at the conclusion of the museum’s annual Optic Nerve Festival. The series featured 14 innovative finalists selected from an international open call. Shiboogi is a silent video that pairs the colorful patterns of Coogi sweaters with Japanese television commercials from the 1980s. Murata is a Chicago native and Rhode Island School of Design graduate. Jillian Mayer’s How to Hide From Cameras (pictured) was the winner of the Audience Choice award. Mayer, a South Florida artist, uses drawing, photography, video, online platforms, installation and performance.
