As so many Miamians know, we are a real estate town. If we learned anything over the past 15 years, our booms can affect the real estate value throughout the nation, if not the world. So as our luxury real estate market begins its latest ascent, it is with great honor that I undertake this wonderful opportunity with SocialMiami and join an esteemed group of contributors with my monthly column, “Prospect Neighborhood.”
During the next few months I will tour the most desirable areas of Miami Dade County, highlighting special homes, which are currently listed for sale, as well as describing the “social” aspects of the listing’s surrounding areas. To start, let’s take a look at Ponce Davis.
The Ponce Davis area, in unincorporated Miami Dade County, is a wonderful location. While in close proximity to South Miami and the schools and amenities of Pinecrest, the area is just minutes from the shops, restaurants and entertainment at Sunset Place, Village of Merrick Park and Coconut Grove.
Bordered by Sunset Drive and Kendall Drive to the south and Erwin Road to Red Road to the west, Ponce Davis is one of the most coveted neighborhoods in Miami and yields some of the highest non-waterfront prices for real estate. Private multimillion dollar estates share the tree-lined streets with smaller intimate homes, all nestled amid the area’s lush foliage.

The setting is ideal for those seeking privacy and who have a desire to custom build their dream home without sacrificing yard space. This acre-plus is within walking distance of a very vibrant and urban environment in the City of South Miami.

There is a wide array of fine restaurants and casual eateries, including Casa Larios (Cuban cuisine at 5859 S.W. 73rd Street), George’s (casual dining specializing in French cuisine at 1549 Sunset Drive), and Akashi Japanese Restaurant (5830 South Dixie Highway).
Sunset Place has an amazing selection of retail shops, and there are great specialty shops lining the streets of South Miami. Footworks (5724 Sunset Drive), Giancarlo’s Jewelry (5794 Sunset) and Vigi (7230 S.W. 57th Avenue) are all favorites of mine. Both Whole Foods and Publix are conveniently located for produce and grocery shopping.
