On September 30, 2023, LEAP for Ladies (@leapforladies) hosted their annual gala, empowering women to put prison in the past. The Second Chance Gala marked LEAP’s 14th year helping justice-impacted women and recognizing community leaders for their tremendous support. Plus, the evening event raised critical funds which go directly to helping these women in our community with housing, paid internships, and educational programming.
“We are so thankful to our esteemed guests, community leaders, and sponsors for helping us celebrate some of the most inspirational women I know, our LEAP graduates,” LEAP Executive Director Mahlia Lindquist says.
The annual event took place at JOY Miami Studios in the heart of Miami with specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres created by renowned Chef Amaris Jones (@amarisjones). There was a silent auction and a live auction hosted by the Miami Heat’s very own Dale McLean (@uptowndale), stories of second chances, and an award ceremony recognizing leaders who have demonstrated leadership and commitment in ways that further LEAP’s mission and vision.
The event honored Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and her unwavering commitment to social justice reform. In addition, the gala featured a special honor for LEAP Board Member and graduate Rebecca “Cafe” Brown.
In celebration of the power of second chances for women who have experienced incarceration, pop sensation and media darling Radmila Lolly (@radmilalolly), also a LEAP Board Member, presented a special performance.
The evening featured fabulous tunes from celebrity DJs Mike Tee (@djmiketee) and Shacia Päyne Marley (@shaciapayne), the granddaughter of icon Bob Marley.
