Shanea Savours: F 27 Ice Cream
A cool concept has opened at 7610 NE 4th Ct., in the same courtyard as Ironside Pizza. At F27 they serve customized ice cream using liquid nitrogen to freeze the it to 27 degrees Fahrenheit. They operate specially designed machines to enable them to use liquid nitrogen, which is injected into the ice cream liquid base. This is a flash freezing process that causes water crystals to be the smallest, achieving a velvety, creamy and smooth texture.
It is a great show for the kids or kids at heart. You can add toppings like marshmallows, gummies, chocolate, cookies, and candies as well as fresh fruit, and nutella. The problem is this process takes a while. When we went there, there was only one person making the ice cream and taking the money, so you can imagine the lineup. It’s nice to be able to sit outside in the lovely courtyard to eat your creation afterwards. This is a dessert haven for vegan, lactose or gluten-free diets.
If you are a true ice cream aficionado this place may not be for you. There are gelato places where the quality of chocolate or ingredients may be better, or not so cloyingly sweet. Also on a hot day the ice cream here melts into a liquid quickly. But if you are having a great pizza dinner at Ironside, this is a quick and fun place to have a sweet cool treat afterwards, although a little gimmicky.
Open daily Monday to Thursday 7-11pm, and Friday to Sunday 3-11.
Recommend.
Happy Dining, Shanea
I may not be a professional writer, but I consider myself a professional eater. I love to eat, read about food, travel, shop, take in the arts, and explore new places. Focusing mostly on Toronto, my home base, Miami, my second home and New York and Italy where I travel to the most, while also featuring other places I’m fortunate enough to visit, I’ll share with you my most savoury tidbits along the way. Happy Dining!
