Site Specific Performance Series – October Recap

The Miami Design District continued its Site Specific Performance Series, an interactive evening featuring 20-minute performances at three specific sites in Miami Design District. The evening began with Sounds of Haiti at The Garden Building’s Rooftop Garden. Next was Alma Dance Theatre presenting Daydreaming with Jean, presented in partnership with UM Department of Theatre Arts. The piece was inspired by Marissa Alma Nick’s loss of her Grandma Jean to dementia, as well as her memory of who she once was, and set to the music of Judy Garland, Mama Cass, The Monkees, Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, Lesley Gore and Ethel Merman. This surprisingly playful performance took patrons on a journey into the mind of a woman who now lives within the landscapes of her mind and is learning to surrender to this little thing we call life. The finale featured Freddy Stebbins, a professional comedic artist/performer/humorist who combined freestyle character impersonations, stand-up comedy, satire, and accent (dialectic) expertise. Stebbins trained with “The Groundlings” and is a popular Miami comedian who brings his uniquely “305″ characters to life.
