MUSIC CAMP

If you’re tired of jamming out in your hot garage this summer, Live! Modern School of Music has a program that’ll challenge, inspire and keep you in an in an air conditioned unit—what else do you need? Each session is two weeks long and will improve your instrumental skills or teach you the basics on your choice of instrument. Campers will participate in band sessions and music labs, as well as a break down of all the timely trends in the music world. Bring your own instrument, or choose from guitar, bass, drums, piano or voice. Music camp is open to ages 9 to 16 and camp runs Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each two-week session is $690.

AILEYCAMP MIAMI

June 22 – 31

While summer is out and many are soaking up the sun, hundreds of campers at AileyCamp Miami are focusing on pointed toes and rhythm count in this six-week dance program. Presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center, multiple young teens from ages 11 to 14 have previously applied for a spot in the program, however, every year those selected come from some of Miami’s most underserved neighborhoods. In addition to focusing on West African, Jazz, Modern and Ballet dance classes, campers will also learn about nutrition, conflict resolution, drug prevention and critical thinking. This free camp begins on June 22 to July 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and registration deadline is March 20.

PATRICIA AND PHILLIP FROST MUSEUM OF SCIENCE SUMMER CAMP

If you’re into flashing lights and the undead, even when it’s not Halloween, this science camp may just be your summer highlight (plus science, of course!) The 50th annual summer camp will give your kids the opportunity to have scientific fun with zombies and Planetarium laser lights, and be surrounded by South Florida’s natural environment. The Frost Science Summer Camp even has innovative technology classes after regular summer camp hours, which are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Enrollment is based on grades, ranging from pre-K through eighth grade. Member fees are $180 per week; non-members fees are $210. Before and after care is available for additional fees.

GROOVE SUMMER PROGRAM

The Groove Summer Program offers girls, aged 11 to 14, a three-week day camp to learn about nutritional health concepts and the benefits of increased physical activity, empowering them to make their own healthy choices. Campers will meet new friends as they learn to make yummy snacks, choreograph their own dance routine and explore careers in health. JUNIOR NATURALIST SUMMER CAMP

Embrace the great outdoors in this captivating and naturalistic camp at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. It’s like camping in the great outdoors, without actually having to! For campers ages 6 to 11, children will conduct science experiments, dissect flowers, construct solar ovens, go butterfly and bird watching and participate in other environmental activities. Take in the breathtaking and remarkable beauty of nature through the eyes of an artist. Fairchild Tropical Garden is hosting, for the first time, a camp that incorporates art and nature! Come see the beautiful artwork within Fairchild Tropical Garden that was inspired by nature and create some of your own! Taught by award-winning artists and naturalist, Hillary Parker, kiddos from ages 8 to 11 will leave camp wide-eyed and aware of the beauty around them. Campers will develop art skills and use different forms of media in the studio, as well as creating their artwork outside, “en plein air.” Camp is all week long, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with two sessions, from June 15 to 26. CAMP BROADWAY MIAMI

August 3 – 7

Camp Broadway Miami returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center from August 3 to 7. Perfect for theater-loving kids ages 10 to 17 who want hands-on theater, music and dance experience. Through Camp Broadway’s non-competitive and ensemble focus program, campers will have sessions from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. which include master classes in voice, dance and acting, Q&A sessions with industry professionals and a backstage seminar with a production crew. In addition, campers will also be able to rehearse and perform on four different performance spaces within the Arsht Center. At the end of the program, campers will have a finale performance on August 8th at the Center’s John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall! Campers will gain confidence and enhance creativity skills and get in touch with their inner artisan, even without prior experience. SUMMER INTENSIVE BALLET PROGRAM IN RUSSIAN TECHNIQUE

June 29 – July 25

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida will present its Summer Intensive Russian Technique Ballet Program teaching the Vaganova Method Curriculum. Offered to students, ages 10 to 22 with previous experience, the Summer Intensive will offer classes in Ballet, Pointe work and Pas de Deux (depending on level), Variations, Character, Flamenco, Modern, Pilates, and Music. Classes are limited to 20 dancers per level. Auditions are by appointment or video, and student placement is based on level, not age. Instructors are all Vaganova professionals or dancers coming directly from the Vaganova Ballet Academy, such as Elena Zabalkanskaya, Andrei Bossov, Larissa Ponomarenko, Vladimir Issaev, Valentina Byzcyna and Ruzana Iremashvili. Additional faculty members include: Emily Tedesco, Modern; Maria Risolia, Pilates; Luana Hidalgo: Footwork; Jorge Robledo, Flamenco; and Emilio Sole-Sempere, Music. Through the program there will be guest speakers on nutrition, injuries, work ethics, dance career management and stage make-up. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuition is $1350 (excluding housing and meals).

SUMMER BY THE SEA CAMP

June 8 – July 31

Biscayne Nature Center offers its Summer by the Sea Camp for campers to explore marine life through exciting hands-on activities with lifeguard-certified marine biologist naturalists. Days will be filled with seagrass adventures, mangrove slogs, kayaking, snorkeling and paddle boarding. Explore the Center’s unique fossil reef, dissect squid and sharks and make new underwater discoveries! Campers will learn about marine life, while also having time for art projects, science experiments and fun beach games. Camp is for children ages 7 to 14. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sign up for one week, two weeks or all four! Tuition is $395 per week or $350 if you are a returning camper. CITY TREKKER SUMMER CAMP

June 8 – August 21

Learn and explore the cultural city that’s right by your front porch at City Trekker Summer Camp’s two-week sessions. The Coral Gables Museum-sponsored camp will get your child outside and aware of the all the historic destinations and activities that Coral Gables has to offer – from exhibits or presentations to field trips. Your child will come back having learned about art, architecture, design and history. Basically like studying abroad, but in your own backyard. The only difference is you get to save money and you’re not stuck cleaning up mud pies. The Coral Gables Museum provides a safe space to play and learn. Campers will be grouped by age and caps, field trip fees and Friday pizza lunch are included in the registration fee. Early drop-off and late pick-up is available for an additional fee. GAME TECH INSTITUTE’S ROBOTICS CAMP

Playing video games is fun, but having a chance to program and build a robot is on another level. Miami Music Project offers a 4-week long summer music camp to integrate students from different communities in a neutral and fun environment, promoting peer mentoring and intense learning through the joy of making music. Playing ball doesn’t have to be designated to your school’s basketball season. Cue Dibia’s Summer Skills Camp that is designed to push its players to their limits and motivate them to excel. It’s for orchestral students who want to continue and grow in their musical performances and meet other kids their age with musical appreciation and talents. CAMP SEAQUARIUM

Get as close to the ocean without actually going to the crowded beach at Miami’s Seaquarium’s Summer Camp! Your children will learn about all that swims and flips underwater at Camp Seaquarium from animal senses and behavior to environmental issues and our relationship as humans with the creatures of the deep. CSI: Miami has become more accessible than watching it one TV. If you’re interested in solving crimes through science, this forensic camp is one to look into. Campers will learn how to evaluate a crime scene, package, collect and process evidence as well as projective motion and DNA with MDC faculty. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided. TRAVEL THROUGH TIME FRENCH CAMP 2015

June 8 – July 2

This year French Camp will travel through time without leaving Miami. Centrally located at the Downtown Miami Charter new facility, children 4 to 14 will enjoy a variety of fun activities with daily French classes, etiquette, photography, arts and crafts, theater, culture, food tastings, sports, outdoor French games, weekly field trip, splash days and a parents show. Make your Legos come to life– all it takes is a little math and science (and a little help at Lego Machines camp)! The little ones, ages 6 to 11 can put their inner Lego master skills to the test. Located at 31 parks throughout Miami-Dade County, this camp aims to attract kids to nature through programs and experiences in the great outdoors. ALICE IN WONDERLAND AND FABLES DANCE AND THEATER CAMP

June 15 – July 24

Dance your way down the rabbit hole and into a wonderful world of theatrics! For a class fully taught in Spanish, students ages 7 to 13 will be the right-hand-man in developing and performing an original contemporary ballet. Co-created by GodoyPradera Projects, collaborating artists will help guide students and create a camp they won’t forget. Cost for the summer camp is $480. ROBOTICS CAMP

Calling all STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) centered students! This 3-week Robotics Camp is focused on MDCPS high school students who are interested in pursuing a STEM career. Learn how to design and create character animation using Autodesk® Maya®. This program is used by top video game development and film studios, which can put your imagination to good use. A new line of technology is here with 3D modeling! What better way to learn about it than first hand with the 3D Gaming Design Camp? Students will learn about 3D modeling, animation, effects and rendering software packages through Autodesk® Maya®. MDC’S CHINESE CULTURE AND LANGUAGE CAMP

Sure it may be cool to get your name written on a grain of rice, but how cool would it be if you could write your own name in Chinese? Campers ages 6 to 12 will have the opportunity to learn the basics of Mandarin and Chinese. This includes learning about Chinese culture through hands-on activities, including calligraphy workshops that teach students how to produce letters and symbols. Go ahead, get that bag of rice. On top of that, campers will learn how to host a traditional Chinese tea ceremony as well as the history of Chinese martial arts and learn it for themselves. Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep School is hosting a Visual and Performing Arts Camp and Athletics Camp for tween and teens ages 8 to 16. If you’re ready to explore the art scene in Miami’s Design District or play softball at one of the school’s newly renovated field, this is the right place for you. At the Visual and Performing Arts Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students will develop skills in photography, animation, painting and drawing as well as be inspired by artwork in galleries and museums. If you’re more of the sporty type, the Knights’ Sports Camp focuses on basketball, softball, tennis, soccer and wrestling fundamentals and competition games. COLONY THEATRE PERFORMANCE CAMP

July 13 – August 7

Learn valuable theater skills in acting, dancing and singing this summer at the Colony Theatre Performance Camp! Through this four-week camp, your mini performer will gain the confidence and abilities of a star, as well as learn the basis of public presentation, scenic design and costuming – all the things that make the show go on! Camp is for children ages 6 to 16, with as much or as little prior experience. The Colony Theatre camp will be lead by their highly trained instructors and will focus on dance for a Final Showcase at the end of the camp for friends and family. Camp fees are $1,200, which includes all four weekly sessions, activity fees, registration, daily snacks and two tickets to the Final Showcase.
