Women of Tomorrow’s Annual Gala was in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we are grateful for the community’s support during these uncertain times.
As South Florida slowly begins to reopen, schools remain closed and the mentees in Women of Tomorrow, who already face life challenges, are now even more at risk. With unemployment at record rates, our girls are at increased probability for sexual abuse, domestic violence, substance abuse and human trafficking. To address our mentees emergency needs, we have switched to virtual mentoring, are setting up a crisis referral system, will be holding a virtual college scholarship presentation this month, and are preparing a summer initiative with contingency mentoring plans for the fall, should the situation require.
Women of Tomorrow has a long-standing partnership with Bal Harbour Shops and we thank Gigi Whitman, our Silent Auction Chair and the amazing stores for their outpouring of support. It is because of relationships like these that we have been able to mentor more than 17,000 girls, have countless stories of breaking cycles of violence, poverty and abuse, and have awarded more than $7 million in college scholarships.
Thank you in advance for helping us change the world one young women at a time and we look forward to seeing you in person in the near future. Have fun shopping!
Fondly,
Jennifer Valoppi
