David and Christina Martin

The American Cancer Society celebrated LIFE at the 2015 Annual Miami Gala presented by The Miami Cancer Institute/Baptist Health South Florida. Held at the beautiful JW Marriott Marquis, over 800 influential leaders within Miami’s social and corporate communities gathered for a philanthropic night filled of elegance, exquisite food and entertainment surrounded by a Gatsby inspired décor; all united by one common goal, raise much needed funds for pediatric cancer research.

Chairpersons for this year’s gala fundraiser were Christina and David Martin and Honorary Chairs Lourdes and Felipe Valls. Sr. Suzanne Cooke RSCJ was also recognized as the night’s Honoree for her dedication to the community, for her fight against cancer, for her philanthropic commitment and for shaping many children for our future generations. Emcees of the night were Irika Sargent, main anchor from CBS Miami and Rick Sánchez, TV celebrity from Mira TV.

The event, which raised over $800,000, celebrated an exciting live auction directed by Jim Gall where participants bid to win an African Safari for two, an Enchanting Winery trip through the Chilean and Argentinian vineyards for two, a private dinner with Sister Suzanne Cooke for a group of eight, an antique piano and a private helicopter ride for three. During the live auction attendees were also challenged to raise money to help Pediatric Cancer Research after the moving testimonial of Alexandra Benítez, a cancer survivor who courageously fought the disease at a young age. Participants enjoyed a magnificent silent auction which featured airline tickets, jewelry, art collections, golf packages, sports collector’s items, spa packages, and couture fashion. The Gala attendees also enjoyed and danced to the live music of the Valerie Tyson Band.
