Architecture and Interior Design

Barry Sugerman, A.I.A

A leader of architecture and interior design in Miami, Barry Sugerman, architect, A.I.A. grew up locally in Miami Beach. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he has been practicing architecture since 1965 with projects in such diverse locations as Florida and the Florida Keys; Big Sky, Montana; Dallas and Houston, Texas; Savannah, Georgia; Tegucigalpa, Honduras and Adana, Turkey.

Mr. Sugerman specializes in designing custom homes, both new and remodeled, providing services including architecture and interior design. Mr. Sugerman’s homes are widely published in local and national magazines and he has won more than 140 regional and national awards for both new and remodeled residences. These awards include the “Golden Aurora Award” for a mediterranean style residence, judged best home in the southeastern United States, and the “Best in American Living” award for a modern style residence, judged the best home in the United States.

Though he has won numerous awards and wide recognition for design excellence, Mr. Sugerman is a modest man with a ready wit and boyish enthusiasm. He believes that architecture, like love, is affected by time, place and circumstance so that for every relationship there exists a multitude of possible outcomes.

“When designing a custom residence, I endeavor to take the house that lives in the hearts, souls and minds of my clients (whether they know it or not) and turn it into great architecture”.

Barry lives with his wife, Barbara, and dog, Sugar, in North Miami with regular visits from their three children and grandchildren. He does not consider architecture to be his profession, but rather his way of life.
