Miami’s art fair opens with benefit event

SocialMiami contributor Sarah Arison takes us on a journey through the Art Miami VIP preview, one of the most significant events of Miami’s storied art week. This year’s preview benefitted the Miami Art Museum, soon to be re-named the Perez Art Museum of Miami (PAMM).

In this 4 minute look at the opening of Miami’s longest-running art fair, Sarah’s journey examines the growth of Art Miami, as well as the impact the arts have had on Miami as documented through the words of key influencers Dennis Scholl of the Knight Foundation, esteemed collector Marvin Ross Friedman, The Miami Herald’s Jane Wooldridge, Perez Art Museum director Thom Collins and Nick Korniloff, director of Art Miami.

The VIP Preview drew crowds of more than 11,000 international collectors, museum curators, interior designers, artists and connoisseurs. Among the notable attendees were: Darlene and Jorge M. Pérez, developer and longtime trustee of the Miami Art Museum; Eric Schmidt, executive chairman, Google; Thom Collins, director, Miami Art Museum; James Rosenquist, acclaimed American pop artist; Lucien Clergue, world-renowned French photographer; Arnold L. Lehman, director of the Brooklyn Museum; Holly Hotchner, director of the Museum of Arts and Design; Lenny Kravitz; Carol Damien, director of Frost Art Museum; and international collectors Ted and Ruth Baum, Marvin and Elayne Mordes, Jack Tilton, Eric Feder, Steve Lavigne and Jonathan Blue Louisville.
