Allison Weiss Brady’s The Life of a Social Scribe
Palm Beach to South Beach
Follow Allison Weiss Brady – one of Miami’s top society gals – as she dashes about being oh-so-social.
In this segment, Allison journeys north to Palm Beach, then back to South Beach and Bal Harbour to give us the inside scoop from a social point-of-view that only she can deliver.
Yachting in Palm Beach…
My husband Chip and I had the honor of co-hosting a charity event on the 151 foot yacht The Highlander, which is owned by the Forbes magazine family. Since they sold part of their company to Bono from U2, I was hoping he’d come too. No such luck, but Palm Beach’s high society was out in full force.
The event benefited The Community Coalition, which aids the homeless and is run by Moira Forbes Mumma. The other co-hosts were Moira; her brother, Kip Forbes; Tom Quick of Quick & Reilly; philanthropist Diane N. Weiss, who is working with Brown University on an innovative rehab center for injured US soldiers; David Park; last year’s hosts Craig and Michele Millard; Alyne Massey; and Bob and Jane Souaid.
A “Who’s Who” of Palm Beach, Miami and even royalty attended: The Duchess of Marlborough; Judge Rex Ford; Tom Zetkov; Vanessa Henry of Worth Avenue’s fabulous jewelry store Betteridge, Greenleaf & Crosby; Frances Hayward; Edgar and Nicole Lozano; Aaron Glickman, Publisher of SocialMiami.com; Lindsay Myers; Alex Clarke; Stephan and Rita Lloyd; June Racine; Marianne Castle; Jessie Araskog; and Betsy and Wallace Turner.
Dinner was a feast fit for kings and queens. Steak with a side horseradish sauce, greens with oranges and almonds, herbed chicken, scallops in a cream sauce, and the Forbes’ famous corn pudding, followed by a molten chocolate lava cake. I went straight for the corn pudding, which could very well be one of the finest side dishes ever. Well worth breaking any diet for!
One of Palm Beach’s most famous – and most photographed – philanthropists Tom Quick took the helm for the live auction after dinner. Tom frequently hosts events for Palm Beach’s top charities and is quite often on the cover of national society magazines. I was chosen as the model for the auction and strutted around the room encouraging top dollars for the wine – a magnum of 2003 Chateau Coos d’ estuarine, 1996 Chateau Lafitte Rothschild, premier cru, a bottle of 1986 and 1996 Chateau Meraux, and wines from the Forbes’ private collection not sold in the United States. It was cool until someone yelled, “Great job, Vanna!” Ugh!!
$65,000 was raised for The Community Coalition. Their next fundraisers are in New York City, and the Philadelphia yacht event is on May 8. For more information, please visit TheCommunityCoalition.org.
