Opening night at Art Miami and Context
Tuesday of Miami Art Week featured the much anticipated VIP opening of Art Miami and Context. The fairs span over two vast tents in Midtown Miami and are connected by a central courtyard.
Art Miami is in its 24th year and showcases some of the most important artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries in collaboration with a selection of the world’s most respected galleries.
Launched in 2012, CONTEXT is the sister fair to Art Miami and is dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career artists.
Art Miami director Nick Korniloff and wife Pamela Cohen produced a celebratory opening that attracted both international and local collectors combined with significant influencers from Miami’s social set.
Inside the tents, drinks flowed freely as patrons maneuvered from gallery to gallery. Outside, a Marilyn Monroe-like homage to Cindy Crawford was erected in the courtyard and the supermodel made an appearance with husband Rande Gerber. Various murals created by international street artists were positioned in the courtyard, as well.
For the second year in a row, the opening night benefited Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). Representing PAMM were museum director Thom Collins and philanthropists Jorge and Darlene Perez. With the museum’s opening taking place throughout the week, Collins remarked that Art Miami would most likely be the only fair that he would attend.
