American Red Cross hosted two signature events during March.

The American Red Cross of Greater Miami & The Keys hosted its 23rd Annual Red Cross Ball on March 12 at the Hotel InterContinental Miami, and its 11th Annual Spectrum Awards for Women Luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne on March 21, 2005. More than 480 community leaders attended the ball, raising over $500,000 for local Red Cross services. Guests enjoyed a Southern Wine and Spirits champagne reception and a live auction hosted by WFOR/CBS 4 Weatherman, Bob Soper. Ball Chairs were Julia and David Bianchi, and Honorary Chairs were Mrs. Rita Gilbert and the late Gilbert Michel, Jr.

Red Cross supporters paid tribute to the women who were named 2005 Sara Hopkins Woodruff Spectrum Awards for Women honorees. The awards are named in memory of Sara Hopkins Woodruff, a noted businesswoman and philanthropist, and recognize ten outstanding women whose contributions improve the quality of life in our community. Spectrum Awards and honorees are: Rosalind R. Ludwig Chairmen’s Award – Swanee DiMare; The Victoria Cummock Philanthropy Award – Martha Ware; Cervera Real Estate Miami Ambassador Award – Lettie Bien; Bank of America Cultural Award – Kathryn B. Gaubatz; Deloitte & Touche Entrepreneurial Award – Nancy T. Hector; The Ethel & W. George Kennedy Family Foundation Volunteerism Award – Elsie Sterling Howard; J.N. McArthur Foundation Education Award – Christine McCarthy;
