More than 400 South Miami-area residents gathered recently to celebrate a new resource for breast health: the new Baptist Health Breast Center on the South Miami Hospital campus, a healing place that features the most advanced digital imaging technology, top-quality diagnostics and expert surgical care.
MegaTV news anchor Maria Regina Bustamante hosted the opening ceremonies in which everyone took part in a butterfly garden dedication—complete with a butterfly release—and in the unveiling of a special commemorative quilt to be displayed at the Center. The quilt, created by Sara Jane Charlton, was donated on behalf of the Your Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group. Members of the Miami Sunset Senior High School Golden Girls dance team offered a series of performances, and attendees also took advantage of free health screenings—including those for cholesterol, glucose (diabetes), blood pressure and osteoporosis—breast health education and a Focus on Healing exercise demonstration.
