Greater Miami Jewish Federation Main Event
A Night of Spirit and Song
Members of Miami’s Jewish community united in celebration of their diversity and belief in social justice at the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Main Event on December 13 at Carnival Center for the Performing Arts, Knight Concert Hall. The Main Event was the largest community-wide Campaign Opening in the Federation’s history, bringing together nearly 2,000 people who share a commitment to helping Jews in need, in Miami, in Israel and around the world. Those present have donated a total of $6.5 million to the 2007 Federation/UJA Campaign. Recently, the Federation was ranked among the largest charities in the U.S. by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, with revenues in excess of $70 million.
The Main Event was chaired by Donald E. Lefton, with Mojdeh and Robert Danial, Adrienne and Jeffrey Scheck, Lily and David Serviansky, Lisa Berg, Ariel Bentata, Honorable Amy N. Dean, Karen Dornbusch, Matthew Greer, Dr. Bruce Korman, Anthony Pelle, Judith Reich, Lawrence M. Schantz and Jerry Sokol serving as Vice Chairs. Prominent Miami/Israel philanthropist Shari Arison was honored with the Federation’s
Friend of Israel Humanitarian Award, in recognition of her many years of outstanding support for the Jewish people in Miami and in Israel. The program concluded with a stirring performance by folk music’s legendary trio Peter, Paul and Mary, who inspired participants with messages of social responsibility and hope.
