Jazz at Pinecrest Gardens 2012-2013

Jazz at Pinecrest Gardens 2012-2013 season is in full swing. Seven extraordinary performances will be showcased under the stars on our beautiful Banyan Bowl stage. Opening night the South Florida Jazz Orchestra will be performing their Great American Songbook. It’s a big band, big sound, and a big “kick-off” to what promises to be the Gardens’ biggest jazz series yet.

SOUTH FLORIDA JAZZ ORCHESTRA GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

Featuring Vocalist Lisanne Lyons

October 27, 8p.m. South Florida Jazz Orchestra is a “world class” sixteen piece Big Band that comprises some of the best jazz musicians in the South Eastern Unites States. Their repertoire will please not only the jazz aficionado, but anyone with a modicum of musical taste.

November 10, 8p.m. Latin Grammy nominated Spam Allstars is one of the pioneer bands of the new Miami-fusion sound, blending vintage funk, Latin groove, true jazz improvisation, soul, hip-hop, and electronica which they call “Electronic Descarga” not a known genre but certainly one that attracts all colors of the spectrum.

THE RODRIGUEZ BROTHERS

December 8, 8p.m. Pinecrest Gardens is excited to welcome back the incredible Rodriguez Brothers. Having just released their third album Mood Swings, these masters of Afro-Cuban jazz tempered with traditional jazz elements continue to garner critical acclaim from both their recordings and live performances.

MARIA RIVAS

January 26, 8p.m. One of Venezuela’s premier contemporary vocalists, she interprets her music in English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, and performs her own blend of traditional jazz standards as well as music and lyrics she has composed herself. Her unique sound is seductive, exotic and sensuous.

MAD ROMANCE

February 9, 8p.m. Start your Valentine’s Day celebration early with these Miami-based luminaries performing your favorite melodies with tight four-part harmony arrangements in a dizzying array of styles, including classic jazz, mambo, lush ballads, cha-cha-cha, bebop, madcap swing, and a few off-the-beaten-path songs from the 1960’s and 70’s.

ED CALLE BIG BAND

March 16, 8p.m. Latin Grammy nominated saxophonist, Ed Calle, is known for his extraordinary ability to play be-bop, Latin and contemporary jazz, and pop. He has appeared on Grammy award winning albums by Frank Sinatra, Arturo Sandoval, Jon Secada, and Vicky Carr.

MARLOW ROSADO

April 13, 8p.m. Bringing the jazz season to a close will be two time Grammy nominee Marlow Rosado. Marlow is a salsero at heart, but has successfully written, played and produced hits in a variety of musical styles for some of the most renowned artists in Latin Music.
