Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science Presents 13th Annual Galaxy Gala
On Saturday, April 18, the stars and planets will align over the Hilton Miami Downtown to witness a stunning spectacular: Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science’s 13th Annual Galaxy Gala, themed “Aqua Lumière.” The organization’s biggest night of the year helps raise funds for the new, state-of-the-art Museum under construction in downtown Miami’s Museum Park. This year’s event will be the last to take place offsite, before moving into the new Museum.
The evening will be hosted by the Museum’s Board of Trustees, under the leadership of a gala committee comprised of community activists and philanthropists. Gala co-chairs are Shelly & Marko Dimitrijevic and Jennifer & Gabriel Montoya. The Honorary Chair is the Hector Family; Philanthropic Chairs are Trish & Dan Bell; Host Chairs are Alicia Cervera Lamadrid & Alberto Lamadrid and Presenting Chairs are Chanin & Adam Carlin, Jacqueline Simkin and Barbara & Michael Weintraub.
The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception featuring live animals and an auction, followed by an exquisite dinner. Some of Miami’s most notable “movers and shakers” will be kicking up their heels on the dance floor to music from Drew T and DJ Blaze Carreras. All eyes will be on the stage when Latin GRAMMY®-nominated artist Debi Nova performs.
Emceed by Chief Meteorologist John Morales of NBC 6 South Florida, this year’s Galaxy Gala celebrates the interplay of light and water with art and technology. Special guest artist Antonin Fourneau will fly in from France to translate the theme of “Aqua Lumière” into reality by creating a water and light graffiti interactive experience.
“The Galaxy Gala is considered to be among the most fun and interesting galas in the community,” said Trish Bell, Galaxy Gala Philanthropic Chair. “Not only is it a fun and social event, but it also focuses on educational exhibits and what the Museum has to offer in a very entertaining way.”
During the evening, the Museum will honor individuals and organizations who have exhibited exceptional leadership and commitment to the development and building of the new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science. The Visionary Award will be presented to The Batchelor Foundation, Founder George E. Batchelor; the Vanguard Award will be presented to Baptist Health South Florida; and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science Award will be presented to Julia Rea Bianchi.

They will find themselves captivated through all of their senses,” explains Jennifer Montoya, Galaxy Gala Co-Chair. “Everyone will have an opportunity to get a firsthand experience of the technology, innovation and passion of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, a groundbreaking project.”
With Miami’s non-stop party atmosphere, the Museum’s Board of Trustees knows how to step out from the crowd.
“The role of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science is to inspire visitors to help build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and to serve as a launching point for a dream or aspiration,’” says Shelly Dimitrijevic, Galaxy Gala Co-Chair. “We are lucky to have such an amazing place of discovery right in our own backyard!”
Coinciding with the Galaxy Gala will be the Museum’s Big Bang 2015: H2Glow After-Party, hosted by the Frost Science Young Patrons along with co-chairs Ali Lamadrid, Cristina Mas and Lena Lowell. Targeted toward young professionals ages 21–40, the Big Bang will begin at 9 p.m. with a cocktail reception. At 11 p.m., the doors will open to the main event, where attendees will join Gala guests and “crash” the party. The Gala will then transform into a nightlife-inspired event with a DJ, dancing, special performances and cocktails.
