Project: New Born Luncheon Holds True to Form at its New Locale
Roberta and Harvey Chaplin and Serena and Leon Simkins are honored amongst food and fashion
Project: New Born’s 34th Annual Bal Harbour Shops Fashion Show Luncheon, held for the first time ever at the Hotel Inter-Continental Miami, was a tremendous success as a who’s who from South Florida’s philanthropic community took time out of their busy day to attend.
Money raised from the event helps to maintain and support the Neonatal Intensive Care unit in the Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine in the Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Honored at the event were long-time supporters of Project: New Born, Roberta and Harvey Chaplin. Lola Jacobson, Grand Chairman and Founder of the Banyan Society, presented the Chaplins with her “Lola” award.
“I am so pleased to have the opportunity to pay tribute to Roberta and Harvey,” said Mrs. Jacobson. “They have supported Project: New Born for 34 years, and their generosity and commitment has helped to save the lives of tiny preemies that are helpless to help themselves.”
Banyan Society Crystal Branch members and Crystal Door honorees, Serena and Leon Simkins were named Honorary Chairpersons of the luncheon for their long-time support of Project: New Born.
As always, the luncheon began with the Baileys Irish Cream Creations, which featured South Florida’s top pastry chefs and gourmet celebrities. Guest went from table to table sampling an absolutely scrumptious array of pastries while at the same time placing bids for the silent auction.
Following the sampling, guests were escorted into the grand ballroom for the Bal Harbour Shops fashion show that featured Chanel, Dior, Luca Luca, Neiman Marcus, Oscar de la Renta, Roberto Cavalli, Saks Fifth Avenue, Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent.
“As always, Stanley Whitman from the Bal Harbour Shops has helped to make this event an enormous success,” said Schatzi Kassal, founder and executive director of Project: New Born. “Cheryl Stephenson coordinated the event and did a masterful job of moving the show from the Sheraton Bal Harbour, where it had always been, all the way downtown to the Inter-Continental. We are eternally grateful to Stanley and his Bal Harbour Shops.”
