Site Specific Performance Series – May

Miami Design District’s May representation of its “Site Specific Performance Series” featured four acts that combined a multitude of performance disciplines.

The evening kicked off with a pre-performance cocktail reception at Louis Vuitton. From LV, guests walked across 40th Street to Arevalo Gallery, which hosted an exhibit and on-site installation of prominent Miami artist Karen Rifas and a special dance performance within the installation titled Sinuous Complexity, conceived by Dale Andree and danced by Thryn Saxon and Angie Lu.

Following the experimental dance, the Broadway Musical Theatre (BMT) ensemble BMT Broadway Voices offered a selection of Broadway musicals in concert.

Next was the one man performance entitled PET, an interactive and physical one-man dance theatre piece set in a support group meeting for ex-lovers/serial monogamists, built from an array of interviews and shared experiences of the broken-hearted. PET was written and performed by Rudi Goblen. Directed by Michael Yawney.

The evening concluded with the 2012 YoungArts Winner in Jazz, David Leon who led a trio of musicians in the sculpture garden created by Design District gallerist Bernard Markowicz.

This was the Design District’s final Site Specific of the season. The series will pick up once again in fall 2014 with a new array of local talent.
