Jammin’ at Joey’s with Myra Wexler
Arriving at Joey’s for my fourth installment, I was happy to welcome Constance Collins Margulies, founder of The Lotus House Shelter, a non-profit located in Overtown. Constance was accompanied by her dad, Mike Collins.
“Where Hope Blossoms” is the tag line for The Lotus House. Simple words that say so much about what Constance and The Lotus House are on a mission to accomplish. With obvious pride, she enlightened us about the progression of the shelter, now in its fifth year. During this period, more than 400 women have graduated and today these graduates are living and working in the community as productive, good citizens – shining examples of how it’s never too late to have a new beginning.
The Heart of Giving
Legal Services of Greater Miami recognized leaders of Miami’s top law firms and businesses for generously contributing over $775,000 in gifts and pledges. Channel 10’s Senior Political Reporter Michael Putney praised Legal Services for its role in helping the poorest residents in our community have free legal help with critical legal problems they face when they lose jobs and housing and are denied access to healthcare. Chief Justice Peggy Quince echoed the praise for LSGMI and its supporters.
