“Passion and Grace,” Miami City Ballet’s Program III, will further broaden the horizons of MCB’s dancers with two Company premieres including Tharp’s superbly sophisticated “Sweet Fields,” an uplifting piece performed to the music of American Shaker hymns sung a cappella. This emotionally evocative work may best be simply described as heavenly. The pendulum then swings with its second premiere, a first in the U.S. – the sultry “Carmen” by Richard Alston, an acclaimed British contemporary dance choreographer and founder of Richard Alston Dance Company. While Alston is known for his modern choreography, this work is presented in the classical ballet vocabulary. It is a smoldering, flamenco-fueled, 50-minute adaptation of the classic saga of passion and betrayal performed to the music of Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite. Opening this promising program will be Balanchine’s virtuosic “Allegro Brillante,” a work that beautifully accentuates both ballerina and the corps de ballet. Performances are Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Treat your special lady to À la rose, a declaration of love captured in a fragrance. Queen of flowers, the rose
knows no boundaries and has inspired those in the creative arts for centuries. Poets, painters, musicians… and perfumers alike. All have sought to capture its aura, its magic and its secrets. A rosy duo in one fragrance. Two varieties of rose have bestowed the radiance and richness of their petals on this Eau de parfum: 250 Centifolia roses from Grasse (May Rose) produce a very floral base note with sweet honeyed and carnal accents, and 150 Damascena roses from Bulgaria create a top note with a playful blend of pear and lychee.
