FATHERLY GIVING>

Honor your Dad and Help Save an Owlet
There’s no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to help an orphaned animal in honor of your own Dad. Here’s the perfect opportunity! During this spring’s nesting season, Frost Museum of Science’s Falcon Batchelor Bird of Prey Center (which continues in operation 24/7 even though the museum is closed) received an inordinately high number of orphaned baby screech owls. Though these little owlets come in helpless, and the center’s mission is to raise them and release them back into the wild. It’s a fascinating process, but it takes an excellent facility and staff. A donation in your Dad’s name will help save these orphaned owls. They will get a medical exam and whatever it takes to get them ready for adult life; they’ll be given a species-specific diet and some quality time with the center’s foster dad, Screecho, one of the resident male screech owls who teaches the owlets how to feed and defend themselves; and the final step is flight training in a large cage where they have room to gain strength and even capture live prey. Once they do that, they’re ready to go. With your help and a little luck, 15 Eastern screech owls will be released back into the wild! Make a contribution of any amount in the name of your father, and the museum will send a personalized email to your dad informing him of your gift.
