Five Questions for Jaime Ferreyros
Television producer and iPhoneographer
Jaime Ferreyros, age 52, captures much of his life through a lens. When the senior writer and producer at Univision’s Deportes – the network’s newly launched sports channel – isn’t filming content for Spanish language viewers, he’s an avid iPhoneographer. Many of his images are scenes from Key Biscayne, where he lives with his wife, Key Biscayne Community School teacher Paloma Ferreyros – while their three children, Paloma (age 26) Alejandra (age 25) and Jaime (age 23) either work or study elsewhere. Ferreyros, however, is busy getting ready for his next photography exhibit in October at the Lunch Box Gallery in Wynwood. We caught up with him and learned a lot about his little known hobby.
What’s iphoneography?
I take photographs with my iPhone. I use a 3GS but the truth comes out when you use a limited camera with limited resolution. There are tons of apps to help you edit – I like Camera Plus, Blur FX and Iris. But I’ll use them only if I’m trying to capture a certain mood.
What do you photograph on Key Biscayne?
I never go out looking for a shot, that’s the beauty of taking pictures with the iPhone: it’s always with you. But I have pictures of marine life – jelly fish and sharks that are sometimes right on the shore. Even the people here are in fascinating situations. One time I shot someone sunbathing atop of a tower of 12, stacked-up lounge chairs.
What’s your Only On Key Biscayne moment?
Only on Key Biscayne can I disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city, walk on the beach, and feel peaceful.
